Research In Motion (RIM)
Wireless Handheld Device
The
RIM Wireless HandheldTM is
designed for people on the go. It features a 31-key keypad
(similar to a PC keyboard) so you can compose messages with
ease. Type up to 30-words-per-minute with only your thumbs. The
unique trackwheel substitutes "point and click" with
roll and click. Quickly scroll through messages and menu options
without touching a key.
Weighing only
five ounces, the RIM handheld is small enough and light enough
to slide into a pocket or clip on a waistband. To enhance
mobility, a serial port and docking cradle accompany each RIM.
The serial connection unites your eLink device and PC to create
a complete information management tool. The docking cradle
recharges both the internal battery and its rechargeable AA
battery.
Using eLink
wireless email service, the RIM Wireless Handheld fits in
your hand and keeps you connected.

Research
proves one of the primary reasons business travelers carry a
laptop is to check email. eLink sets you free from the laptop
and keeps you in control of all your messages. With an
on-the-move lifestyle, shouldn't your email go with you?
Two
eLink address options let you decide which mail follows
you on the RIM
Wireless Handheld:
-
Wirelessly extend an existing Internet
email account (where eLink acts as an Agent and
retrieves messages from a POP or IMAP mail server
and forwards it to your wireless device), or
-
Establish a new email address,
username@2way.net (eLink Messengers your email
straight to your device
|

|
You can even
establish a combination of both. eLink lets you stay in the know
while on the go.
Agent Options
The eLink
Agent address options provide a wireless extension to your
Internet email account. One address, two ways to communicate.
-
The same email address as your Internet
mailbox.
-
Respond capability so replies look like they
are coming right from your desktop
-
Access to your Internet mailbox automatically
(by setting time intervals) or manually (by clicking the
"Check Mail" icon)
Messenger Options
eLink
Messenger gives you a standalone email address with the 2way.net
domain. If your Internet email is not POP or IMAP compliant, or
if you want keep a private, portable emailbox, Messenger is the
way to go. You can select up to 30 characters for your vanity
email address.
More Than Just Email
Sleek,
simple, and easy to use, eLink places information at your
fingertips. PIM tools sync eLink with your PC and popular
desktop organizing applications (Microsoft Exchange, Outlook,
Schedule+, Lotus Notes, and ACT!) for complete control over your
schedule. Ample memory (2 MB) stores hundreds of messages,
contacts, and to-do lists.
The IMAP Advantage
IMAP allows
for tighter integration between the RIM 850 and your desktop
mailbox. eLink controls the flow of information in and out of
your mailbox, in other words, how and where emails are sent and
stored. With an IMAP-compliant email account, eLink retrieves
messages from the desktop Inbox at predetermined time intervals
throughout the day. A second folder, other than the Inbox, can
also be identified from which to pull new messages.
IMAP also allows you to:
-
Store a copy of outbound messages in a named
folder, allowing for enhanced tracking capability.
-
Delete both inbound and outbound email from
your handheld device and have a copy reside on the desktop.
